COE Costa Rica Tasting
Join Golden Bear Coffee and the London Cupping Directive to taste the top 12 scoring Cup of Excellence Costa Rica 2024 lots ahead of the upcoming auction at the end July.
The Cup of Excellence returns to the Independent Coffee Lab for the second time this year as we introduce the top scoring lots from Costa Rica following the international jury, which commenced on June 3rd. We are delighted to present the top 12 scoring lots across each category in a professional environment for you to taste.
Records have been broken in this year’s competition with 11 coffees scoring over 90 points (3 traditional washed, 3 experiential and 4 traditional Honey and Natural). Noelia Villalobos, Executive Director of the SCA Costa Rica says “ Life happens, coffee helps. But a Cup of Excellence coffee from Costa Rica? It’s like having a superhero in your cup”. Some coffees have also been described as having “bright acidity, floral aroma and loaded with fruity notes” and “silky body, ample mixtures of tropical and dried fruits, leaning towards caramelised sugars”.
‘Traditional Washed Processes’, ‘Traditional Semi-Washed, Honey and Natural processes’ and ‘Experimental’ are the three distinct categories that make up this year's Cup of Excellence: Costa Rica. Each category represents strict processing methods which adhere to traditional processing techniques to either ensure clean acidity and clarity for washed processed coffees, or to preserve authentic characteristics for Semi-washed, honey and natural processed coffees. This allows for the Experimental category for lots that have undergone innovation at a stage of preparation, with the purpose of developing complex or exotic flavours and aromas in a biochemically natural way.
This Cup of Excellence: Costa Rica tasting is for, but not limited to, green coffee buyers, coffee roasters and coffee professionals. If you have experience in tasting high scoring arabica coffee with a notion to purchase green coffee, this event is not to be missed. The COE Auction takes place on July 25th 2024, and the National Winners Auction takes place between July 22nd and July 26th 2024.
More information on the coffees and the auction is available online here : https://allianceforcoffeeexcellence.org/costa-rica-2024/
Location : The Independent Coffee Lab (London SE1 1SG)
Date and time : Friday 19th July - 9am to 11.30am
